The Guangdong Food and Drug Administration recently released a new Guangdong food safety traceability system, which will achieve full variety traceability this year, including key varieties such as infant formula food, edible oil, and alcohol, boosting public confidence in food safety.
Guangdong built the first electronic traceability system for infant formula milk powder in mainland China in 2014. At present, more than 4100 domestic and imported varieties have established over 110 million traceability data, achieving 100% full coverage of imported and non Guangdong infant formula milk powder varieties. The system once locked in the sales situation of unqualified milk powder in Guangdong.
On the basis of the original electronic traceability system for infant formula milk powder, the new food safety traceability system has added varieties of infant formula food (milk powder, Rice noodles, cereal powder, etc.), edible oil, alcohol, etc. to achieve traceability covering the whole process of production, circulation, catering, etc.
At the same time, the new traceability system has achieved data integration with the Mainland Article Coding Center, making it convenient for the public to query food production permits and supervise sampling information through product barcodes and traceability codes. The public can determine the authenticity of products through their business location, which can effectively prevent behaviors that affect the interests of enterprises and consumers, such as counterfeiting traceability codes, selling counterfeit goods, and colluding.
Wu Shengming, Deputy Director of Guangdong Food and Drug Administration, stated that a new traceability mechanism is currently being explored, which allows for "full variety traceability and key variety traceability". At the end of 2016, the coverage rate of key regulated varieties such as infant formula food, edible oil, and alcohol circulating in Guangdong Province reached over 90%, and the success rate of traceability query was not less than 90%.
